Korean films have been exposing the world to Korean culture for half a century. These films have made a significant impact on Korean film development both spiritually and culturally. A large part of this effect is due to the success and talent of Korean actors. It is through television, films, documentaries and stage performances that we’ve been fortunate enough to experience the contributions these actors have made.

Jo In Sung

Jo In Sung

From South Korea, Jo In Sung got his start from modeling. He jumpstarted his acting career by appearing in television shows and was recognized seriously as an actor in Piano, a television drama. He’s appeared in a total of twelve television shows, seven films and had appearances in six music videos.

His achievements include awards for Best Actor, Best New Actor and several Top Excellence Awards. He also served in the military for 25 months.

Song’s career started with modeling and progressed to television. In 1996, he first appeared in a sitcom titled Three Guys, Three Girls and from then on became well-known in Korean television dramas. It wasn’t until 2000, that he became widely recognized for his acting abilities after appearing in Autumn in My Heart, a television drama.

He’s appeared in fifteen TV shows, thirteen films, three music videos and has a small musical career. He’s won many awards including Best New Actor, Popularity and Excellence Awards in addition to Asia’s Most Charming Artist.

Lee Min Ho

Lee Min Ho

It was a television show called Boys Over Flowers that won Lee his first Best New Actor Award. He was later given nominations for Most Popular Actor and Outstanding Korean Actor for two more television shows, City Hunter and The Heirs.

Although Lee has released two albums, he has said it is not his desire to succeed in a music career. He’s appeared in thirteen TV shows, four films and has eight DVDs. His accolades include several Excellence Awards, a Hot Actor Award, Best Dressed and Best Actor Awards.

With a beginning as an actor and model, it was in 2005 that Park debuted in his first television shows, however; it was in 2010 when he received significant recognition as an actor when he appeared in Queen of Reversals and Prosecutor Princess, both romantic comedies. He’s had leading roles in two films,

The Princess Man which is a period drama and Confessions of Murder, a thriller. His resume’ includes sixteen television shows, five films and appearances in seven music videos. He’s won awards for Excellence, Popularity and a Hallyu Asia Top Star Award.

Both and actor and a singer, Yoon has gained real popularity. His most notable television acting roles include appearances in Queen of Housewives, My Fair Lady, Secret Garden and I Can Hear Your Voice. He’s enjoyed a successful musical career as well.

He’s appeared in sixteen television shows, three films, two variety shows and many commercials. His awards include New Star and several Excellence Awards.

Jung is an actor, producer, director and model. He is also recognized as the first Korean Goodwill Ambassador for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. He began his career as a model and starred in his first film Beat, which earned him a Best Actor Award.

He’s quite an accomplished and versatile television and movie actor. He’s served on juries for three international film festivals and has won several Best Actor Awards as well as Best Dressed and Style Icon Awards.

Jang gained his recognition from roles in two films, Friend and Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War. Regularly topping industry surveys, he’s known in Korea as one of the highest paid actors and quite a popular celebrity endorser. He’s appeared in eighteen films, thirteen television shows and also has a successful musical career.

He’s been given awards for Best New Actor, Most Popular Actor and a President’s Commendation as well as being recognized as a Style Icon.

O Ji-ho

O Ji-ho

Couple or Trouble, The Slave Hunters and Queen of the Office are the TV shows that O is widely known for. While he’s starred in films, it is television that gained him his fame. He appears with his daughter on the TV reality show The Return of Superman.

He’s appeared in impressive twenty-eight television shows, twelve films, nine variety shows and twelve music videos. His accomplishments include winning Excellence Awards, a Best Supporting Actor Award and a Model Star Award.

Won achieved popularity after appearing in Autumn in My Heart, a TV drama. It was his acting in the films Taegukgi, Mother and The Man from Nowhere that showcased his true acting abilities and made him popular with international audiences.

Jang has made his success from acting, modeling and singing. He gained acting popularity from starring in the television dramas Beethoven Virus, You’re Beautiful, Mary Stayed Out All Night, Rain, Pretty Man and Jackpot. His musical career stems from recording soundtracks for many of the shows in which he’s appeared.

He’s had roles in eighteen television dramas, ten films, eight additional TV shows and twenty-two music videos. He’s won an award for Charming Guys Who Are Single and several Best New Actor and a Commendation from the Ministry of Culture and Finance.
